Charges against a Bellefonte man have been upgraded to attempted murder, following an investigation into an alleged domestic dispute. Police arrested 64-year-old Edward Wetzel last month when officers were called to a home, in regards to a domestic altercation. Authorities say while cleaning his guns, he reportedly pointed a .44 caliber handgun at a family member and stated that “he could smoke her.” During a hearing yesterday in Centre County Court, prosecutors noted that during the altercation, Wetzel pulled the trigger twice before “acting surprised” when the gun did not fire. Initially, Wetzel was charged with making terroristic threats, but that has now been upgraded to attempted murder. He remains in the Centre County Prison. Bail has been denied.
