Clearfield County authorities have arrested a couple for child abuse after an investigation showed a 15-month-old toddler allegedly suffered numerous injuries while in their care. Arrested were 22-year-old Nicholas Cowder of Clearfield, and 18-year-old Ashlee Daniels of Altoona. Both are accused of physically abusing the child at a home along Poplar Avenue in Clearfield Borough. Police say the child suffered a fractured tibia and a bruise to the head when the couple allegedly forced the child into what was described as a “timeout chair,” that resulted in injuries. Both Cowder and Daniels are facing numerous counts including aggravated assault and child endangerment. Police report the alleged abuse came to their attention by an area resident. Preliminary hearings will be scheduled in the near future.
