A 19 year old Altoona man has been charged with homicide by vehicle and DUI, after a crash that killed an Altoona Area High School Student early Sunday morning. Police say Jared Detwiler was driving a truck with 17-year-old Lundyn Treese and another teenager, on Sunday along the 10th Avenue Expressway. Reportedly, shortly after 4 a.m. Detwiler hit a tree and a post, and then crashed into four parked vehicles in the Green Avenue parking lot. Detwiler reportedly told authorities he swerved to miss an oncoming vehicle, but that wasn’t the case, based on surveillance footage in the area. Treese was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash. The other teen, who was sitting in the back of the truck was able to climb out of the vehicle with no injuries. Detwiler, has been charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI. He has also been charged with two counts of DUI and recklessly endangering another person, among other related charges. A preliminary hearing has not been scheduled. In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been set up for Treese’s family.
