Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, November 15 through Thursday, November 21.
Tribute shows provide some highlights this weekend. McGarvey’s in Altoona is hosting the “Amp Up to Eleven: A Tribute to 90s Grunge Icons” event on Saturday evening. Four different tributes will hit the stage: local rockers The Zuds with their Stone Temple Pilots tribute set, All Five Horizons with their Pearl Jam tribute, Williamsport’s Aberdeen with their Nirvana tribute, and northern Cambria County’s Deny Your Maker with an Alice In Chains set. The music starts at 7 p.m. This event sold out the last time it was presented; tickets are still available through McGarvey’s Facebook page.
Meanwhile on Saturday night, State College’s historic State Theatre brings back popular Philadelphia-based Led Zeppelin tribute group Get The Led Out. This group has been praised for their detailed and authentic renditions of Led Zeppelin classics. The show begins at 8 p.m., and tickets can be obtained through the website www.thestatetheatre.org.
And the approach of the holiday season again means that popular Christmas-themed rock act, the Trans Siberian Orchestra, is touring with their theatric spectacle of music, light and sound. This year’s presentation, “The Lost Christmas Eve,” arrives onstage at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center on Thursday the 21st. Tickets can be ordered online via the Bryce Jordan Center website, bjc.psu.edu. Q94 listeners can also win tickets by being the fourth caller at (814) 944-9420 when they hear the Trans Siberian Orchestra song between 2 and 4 p.m. through Wednesday (Nov. 20).
