PA Supreme Court Orders Election Officials to Stop Counting Ballots Already Ruled Illegal

illegal-legal

The Pennsylvania Supreme has stepped in and ordered election officials in the state to stop counting mail-in ballots marked with the wrong date or missing a signature.  The order specifies that Philadelphia, Bucks, and Montgomery Counties must adhere to the high court’s earlier ruling which stated that undated, misdated, or unsigned mail-in ballots should not be counted. This latest ruling has been backed by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro who said, “Any insinuation that our laws can be ignored or do not matter is irresponsible, and does damage to faith in our electoral process.”  Yesterday’s ruling came after a slew of lawsuits were filed by  Republican Party officials in the midst of a Senate recount effort following GOP candidate David McCormick’s win over incumbent Democrat Bob Casey.  In the meantime, the recount is underway in some counties, with counties having until tomorrow to begin the recounts.  The results must be reported to the Secretary of State’s Office by November 27th.
