Scam Alert From the Blair County Sheriff’s Office

scams

The Blair County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous reports of resident’s receiving phone calls from a male caller identifying himself as a Deputy of the Blair County Sheriff’s Office.  The caller is claiming that a “jury duty or witness” appearance has been missed, resulting in an arrest warrant being generated.  The caller then provides instructions on how to handle the warrant by paying a dollar amount.  The Blair County Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents that this is a scam.  They also note the caller is using a smart phone application that shows the number as coming from the sheriff’s office.  Blair County Sheriff James Ott reminds everyone that his office will never call and present an option to settle any outstanding filings or warrants.  He stresses to never give out your personal or banking information to anyone over the phone.  Finally, if you do get one of these calls, please report it to your local police agency.
