Deer rifle hunting season is underway. Saturday marked the first day of deer rifle hunting season in the state. Game Commission Lieutenant Andy Harvey spent Saturday in Somerset and Westmoreland counties and told TribLive he saw more hunters out than he expected. More than 430-thousand white-tailed deer were taken during all hunting seasons in Pennsylvania in 2023 and 2024.
