Luigi Mangione, who was charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thomas last week in New York City, screamed at reporters as he was led into the Blair County Courthouse for his extradition hearing yesterday afternoon. Mangione, who was apprehended on Monday at McDonalds on Plank Road in Altoona, had to be restrained by officers as they led him into the courthouse. He could be heard shouting, “It’s an insult to the intelligence of the American people,” as he entered the courthouse in Hollidaysburg. Mangione plans on fighting his extradition to New York and will remain jailed at the state prison in Huntingdon. Prosecutors now have 30 days to file for a governor’s warrant to speed up the extradition process. Charges of felony forgery and carrying a weapon without a license, filed in Blair County against Mangione, will stand, but Blair County DA Pete Weeks reportedly said the charges here will take a “second seat” to the murder charges Mangione faces in New York. Mangione’s defense, local attorney Thomas Dickey, has 14 days to file a petition challenging the extradition.
