A big change is coming to the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Starting next year, there will be no manned toll booths on the Pennsylvania Turnpike as they are transitioning to “Open Road Tolling” which means tolls will be collected electronically via overhead gantries, without the need to stop at a toll booth. This technology will eliminate the need for manned toll booths across the entire system by 2027. Also, a five percent toll increase will go into effect next year.
