Next year will bring some new laws to the Keystone State. Beginning January 1st, a new law will require insurance providers, regulated by the state, including Medicaid, to cover biomarker testing for cancer. Another law, that doesn’t go into effect until October 21st, would extend workers’ compensation coverage for first responders who experience post-traumatic stress injury on the job. This law is intended to curb suicides and other behavioral issues experienced by firefighters, police officers and emergency medical service providers. Finally, a pay raise for lawmakers and state officials, along with state judges, kicks in next week. They will see a 3.4% increase in their paychecks, meaning state lawmakers will make almost 110-thousand-dollars a year. The govenor will see his salary go from 213 thousand-dollars a year, to just over 220 thousand-dollars a year. Lawmakers and the governor continue to get automatic pay increases, as they have, since 1995.
