Japan’s Nippon Steel is extending the closing period for their purchase of U.S. Steel into next year. The company had set the deadline for the acquisition in the fourth quarter of this year but now that date has been moved into the first quarter of 2025. President Biden is expected to make a decision on whether the nearly 15-billion-dollar deal can move forward on national security grounds within a couple of weeks. The president had been waiting for a recommendation from the Committee on Foreign Investment but the panel has told the White House they cannot come to a consensus on the sale.
