Federal officials are declaring Marc Fogel wrongfully detained. The Pittsburgh-area teacher has been imprisoned in Russia since August of 2021 after he was found with a small amount of medically prescribed marijuana at a Moscow airport. Fogel’s family and Pennsylvania politicians have been pushing the U.S. State Department to label Fogel as wrongfully detained and to negotiate for his release. An attorney who is representing the family says the designation brings with it additional resources and the government support that is needed to get Fogel home.
