Centre County Couple Charged With Animal Cruelty

wrta-logo-sm

A Centre County couple is facing animal cruelty charges after a puppy in their care suffered a broken leg that had not been treated, and eventually had to be amputated.  Humane officers say 31-year-old Jeannine Ohmit, and 28-year-old Damion Confer have both been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, after they allegedly admitted to not providing care for the puppy, claiming they could not afford it.  The couple agreed to surrender the puppy, named Rose, to humane officers, who then took the dog to a vet.  The severity of the injury required doctors to amputate the leg.  Ohmit reportedly is free on unsecured bail, and Confer is still awaiting arraignment.
