An Altoona man has been arrested after he allegedly held four people, including three juveniles, against their will, while he was armed with a knife. Arrested was 30-year-old Daniel Velez, who was arraigned yesterday, on felony counts of unlawful restraint of a minor, false imprisonment of a minor, intimidating a witness, and other related counts. On Sunday evening, Altoona Police were dispatched to a home on the 800 block of 5th Avenue for a reported domestic dispute incident. Reportedly, Velez answered the door and that’s when police saw the victim and her three children huddled in a corner inside the home. When Velez saw police, he ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and held it to his neck. After a brief de-escalation, Velez was taken into custody. He has been placed in the Blair County Prison, on $25,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 5th.
