A state lawmaker from Allegheny County is proposing a measure that would allow public school support staff to collect more compensation every year. State Representative Lindsay Powell has introduced a bill that would make employees like bus drivers, custodians, and cafeteria workers eligible for unemployment when they are off during the summer. The proposal comes as school districts across the commonwealth struggle to find consistent staffing for positions like bus driver and instructional aide. Powell’s bill has been filed with the Pennsylvania House Labor and Industry Committee.
