Internet searches for gambling addiction help is a growing problem, and experts say sports betting is to blame. The Journal of the American Medical Association said in a recent report that if gambling addiction gets out of control it could develop into serious mental health disorders and other problems. Searches for gambling addiction help in 2022 increased 22 percent, then jumped 25 percent in 2023, and in the first half of 2024, ticked up 31 percent. States showing the highest amount of searches are Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Massachusetts. A Supreme Court ruling in 2018 legalized state-sponsored sports gambling through most of the U.S.
