Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused of killing UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson in New York City, has released a statement to his supporters.  In his statement, which was released yesterday by his attorneys, he said he was overwhelmed by, and grateful for everyone who had written to him and offered their support.  After the shooting, Mangione was on the run until he was apprehended by the Altoona Police Department, after being spotted at McDonalds on Plank Road last December.  Since his arrest there has been an outcry from many regarding the need for changes in the healthcare system, with some even calling Mangione a hero.  However, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro called Mangione a coward.  As of this week, nearly $500,000 has been raised by Mangione’s supporters for his legal defense fund.
