Altoona attorney Thomas Dickey, who is representing Luigi Mangione, is challenging criminal charges filed in Blair County, believing they stemmed from unlawful detention and seizures with his client. Mangione, who is accused of killing UnitedHealth Care CEO Brian Thompson in New York City last December, was later apprehended on December 9th at McDonalds here in Altoona. Dickey claims Mangione, who is currently in jail in New York, was illegally detained here in Blair County, before being read his Miranda Rights. Dickey also believes that evidence collected during his Altoona arrest should be suppressed and barred from use in Blair County Court. The evidence that was confiscated included a ghost handgun, and a notebook that contained writings describing an intent to “whack” an insurance company CEO. Before a judge considers Dickey’s pre-trial motion, the Blair County District Attorney’s office will have a chance to address those arguments by filing a response.
