A Friedens man who was to be tried this week for killing his half-brother with a crossbow, has pled guilty to third-degree murder. Thirty-three year old Travis Shearer was arrested last June following an argument with his 39-year-old half-brother Eric Miller. The altercation occurred at a residence located along Cider Mill Road. Yesterday, attorneys from both sides agreed to a plea deal in which Shearer would serve 2-5 years behind bars, followed by 10 years’ probation, if he pled guilty to third-degree murder. Shearer will remain at the Somerset County Prison until he is sentenced on April 28th.
