The public is being asked to continue to avoid Route 281 in Friedens, Somerset County after a coal truck collided with a train hauling corn syrup, yesterday afternoon around 3. The road is expected to be closed for an extended period of time. The crash occurred near the intersection of Route 281 and Culligan Road, prompting numerous crews, including a hazmat unit to arrive at the scene. Officials say the coal truck caught fire following the crash. Three people were injured, including two on the train, and the driver of the coal truck. We have learned that two of the three were taken to the hospital and reportedly, neither sustained serious injury. The crash remains under investigation.
