A 32-year-old Boalsburg man has been charged following a lengthy investigation regarding a deadly pileup that happened on I-99 and claimed the life of a Bellefonte woman and her unborn child. Christopher Saunders is behind bars this morning, accused of causing an accident that took the life of 29-year-old Katharyn Derhammer last September. The accident happened in Benner Township, Centre County. Reportedly Saunders was traveling at a high rate of speed, while using his cell phone, and was not paying attention to stopped traffic. He crashed into Derhammer’s SUV which was then pushed into two other stopped vehicles. Saunders has been charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and other related counts. He is currently in the Centre County Prison in lieu of bail.
