Nine jurors have been picked to hear defendant Paul Kendrick’s capital murder case. The 28-year-old Kendrick is accused of killing a correctional officer in 2018 at SCI-Somerset. Authorities say Kendrick allegedly assaulted Sgt. Mark Baserman. Baserman later died of injuries sustained in the beating. When the assault occurred, Kendrick was already serving a life sentence and facing separate first-degree murder charges. State officials have said they would be pursuing this as a capital offense case, and would seek the death penalty if Kendrick is convicted. Jury selection is expected to continue.
