Corsa Coal Company in Somerset County, which filed for bankruptcy protection in January , reportedly plans to schedule a mass layoff for over 300 employees set to take place on Friday. Workers in both Somerset County and a plant in Maryland will be impacted by the move. However, a class action law firm has posted on their website that they are investigating whether the company failed to provide at least 60 days’ notice before laying off the employees, therefore violating what is known as the WARN Act. The WARN Act is a federal law that requires employers to notify employees at least 60 days before a plant closing or mass layoffs. Company employees with Corsa were given notice of the layoffs on March 12th.
