A couple from Mount Union has been arrested for animal cruelty. William and Helen Burd, both 34, reportedly surrendered their husky/shepherd mix following an encounter with an officer. Investigators say Helen Burd approached the offcer about surrendering her remaining pets, after the couple was evicted from their home. Police report the dog in question was covered with open, bleeding wounds that were so severe the animal had to be euthanized. The Burds have been placed in the Huntingdon County Prison in lieu of bail. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 2nd.
