The trial of an inmate who is already serving a life sentence, began yesterday in Somerset County Court. Paul Kendrick is accused of attacking and killing a corrections officer at SCI Somerset in 2018. Yesterday in the first day of the trail, the jury was shown video of the attack of Sgt. Mark Baserman. Baserman died in the hospital, two weeks after the beating. During yesterday’s trial the jury reportedly heard from another corrections officer who intervened in the attack, that Kendrick went after Baserman because he was upset about a towel being removed from his prison cell. Testimony is expected to continue today.
