The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission says its phone number is being used in a scam. The PUC reported yesterday that scammers are manipulating the caller ID to make it appear that its Philadelphia office is calling. The commission says the scammers will then claim that the victim’s energy supplier is being switched, and the only way it can be stopped is to pay a cancellation fee. The PUC is reminding Pennsylvanians that they don’t make unsolicited calls to demand payment, confirm supplier changes, or threaten to terminate service.
