Attorneys for Norfolk Southern are headed to federal court today to argue that they should not be on the hook alone in paying out a class action settlement to folks impacted by the 2023 East Palestine, Ohio train derailment. Toxic chemicals were released and burned following the incident on the other side of the Pennsylvania border in the Buckeye State’s Columbiana County. A 600-million dollar settlement has been agreed to in the matter but Norfolk Southern is maintaining that — both — the company that owned the railcars, and the manufacturer of the leaked chemicals should share in paying the money.
