The Altoona Mirror reports today that 5 members of the board say in an unofficial poll that they are against any tax increase considering current circumstances affecting taxpayers. One member said that cuts will have to be made, as painful as that may be, but he would rather do that than raise taxes. Another board member stated that a tax hike now would be an insult to a human being right now. The district is facing a $3.9 million deficit, but has not yet learned how much money will come from Harrisburg. The budget is scheduled to be voted on next week.
