A CapitolWire report suggests that a bill has passed the house by a vote of 160-38 to make changes in the law that allows private citizens to purchase and shoot off fireworks. Complaints have been pouring into the capitol since the law was enacted. Proposed changes include banning fireworks except for certain holidays (4th of July, New Years), restricting the time fireworks can be set off, and keeping them at least 150 feet away from all buildings or vehicles. Also heavy fines would be handed out for those who break any proposed laws. The bill now moves to the senate, where similar bills are on the table. One of those bills would make consumer use of fireworks illegal again.
