That is the question that the legislature and Governor Wolf are asking as the June 30th deadline approaches for a new state budget to be in place. Wolf wants to give nearly $2 billion of that money once again to public schools, while many school districts in our area are contemplating property tax hikes for the 22-23 school year. Republicans in the capitol say they want to put most of that money in reserve. Another of gov wolfs proposals is to send out $2000 checks to pa households that earn less than $80,000 a year. And he wants to give state owned colleges and universities some $200 million for scholarship programs. The household checks would cost the state about $500 million. Wolf’s proposed budget, his final one would cost $43.7 billion if approved as is.
