Reports coming from the state capitol indicate that lawmakers are moving ahead with a bill that would push up the primary election day 35 calendar days into the month of march. State house govt committee chairman Seth Grove says this move will put the keystone state right in the thick of the presidential elections. Currently the primary is held in April, which is well after other larger states with more electoral college votes have already voted ,and basically decided on candidates, leaving pa’s vote usually meaningless. If passed and signed by governor veto, the new march date would take effect in 2024, the next presidential election year. The primary change would only occur in Presidential election years.
