Television news reports indicate that the university announced that it has agreed to sell both the Nittany Lion Inn and the Penn Stater to the scholar group. School officials say that while both facilities have served the school well, this will allow the focus to increase on education, research and service. The scholar group currently owns both the Hyatt Place and Scholar Hotel in State College. While selling both hotels, Penn State says it will continue to own and lease the land where the hotels now stand to the Scholar Group. The 2 sides are meeting to discuss the future of some 80 employees, with the union now concerned that this sale could potentially mean the loss of jobs.
