Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 7/17/22

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 17 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

With Washington D.C. blues and roots legends The Nighthawks visiting the area later this month to perform at the PA Roundhouse Rally at Roundhouse Harley-Davidson near Duncansville, we put the spotlight on area bands and artists who specialize in blues and blues-based music on the first-ever “Homegrown Rocker Blues Takeover Special!” We featured a wide assortment of blues styles and flavors, and also featured an interview with Nighthawks founder, singer and harmonica player extraordinaire Mark Wenner – getting his thoughts on The Nighthawks’ 50 years of making music, as well as previewing the group’s July 29 performance at the PA Roundhouse Rally! Along the way, we debuted a new blues number from Pittsburgh’s Pierce Dipner, updated “Local Music News,” and paid homage to Pittsburgh blues and guitar legend Glenn Pavone with a 2000 number from his band The Cyclones for a “Local Music Flashback.” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 071722.)

In a surprise development, the annual Vets Fest event, scheduled for next month at Altoona’s Unter Uns Musical and Entertainment Society, was suddenly cancelled this past week. The event’s organizer, Bill Hocherl, posted the event’s cancellation on social media on Wednesday. Sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America Blair County Chapter 967, Vets Fest was to take place on August 14, and feature an afternoon of music from area bands and artists while raising funds and awareness for area veterans and veterans’ issues.

The Pennsoulvanians announced a new drummer during the past week, as Randy Sciarrillo takes over behind the kit, replacing Todd Harshbarger. The Pennsoulvanians performed yesterday (July 16) during the Route 22 Rock and Blues Festival near Huntingdon.

Western PA-based rock band Dive has changed their name. The group recently announced that their new handle is Chrome Eyes. The group performed earlier this month at the Jackson Township Heritage Festival in Vinco and at Voodoo Brewery in Pittsburgh.
