Healthy profit for Norfolk Southern

In a report in the Altoona Mirror, the rail giant reported an increase in profits by 27%. Norfolk said it took in $958 million, up from $753 just a year ago. The reason..Norfolk increased shipping rates and cut down on the number of delayed deliveries they made during that time period, according to the report. Locally, Norfolk Southern eliminated several hundred jobs in the Altoona Juniata shops in recent years, but they reported they employ some 7335 workers, the highest number since last summer, and the railroad continues to train and hire new conductors. 950 new conductors are currently in training.
