An Associated Press report via the Altoona Mirror indicates that a third union has rejected a contract proposal by the rail industry to keep trains running just 5+ weeks from Christmas. There are 12 railroad unions that must approve a standing offer from railroads, but now 3 of those unions have said no to the offer, which contains the largest raises for workers in nearly 40 years. The good news is that the unions have agreed to keep working while negotiations are ongoing until an early December deadline approaches to get a deal done. Congress may have to intervene to keep trains running through the holidays.
