News reports indicate that a couple was driving their Tesla electric car to Massachusetts, when they hit a piece of debris on i-80 in Clearfield County. The car suddenly began to smoke and had to be abandoned. The couple managed to pull over and get out of the car when it burst into flames. Firefighters on the scene said they needed a lot of water to put the fire out, because it was burning so intensely. In recent months, Tesla has had to recall electric vehicles for faulty seat belts and power steering problems.
