Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 11/6/22

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 6 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

More new local and regional recordings arrived in recent days, so we focused the spotlight on those new recordings during this week’s program! We debuted new tunes from Black Ridge, Dustin Rainey, DMC Duo, Chrome Eyes, Infused, Chris Rattie & the New Rebels, Pierce Dipner, Diaphane and Hate Grenade! We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2003 number from Nevermoure from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to check out a song by southern California native (now based in Washington DC) Suzi Moon, and reviewed the Jukehouse Bombers’ Joyland in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 110622.)

Due to logistical and scheduling complications, the return of the “Acoustic Jam Special” – originally scheduled for our next program – has been moved back until March 5, 2023, when it will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the “Homegrown Rocker!” So instead, we welcome a familiar guest – area musician and “Patched Together” organizer Kent Tonkin – to join us in the studio on our next program to preview the 10th annual “Patched Together: A Day Of Music to Benefit the Healing Patch” event, which returns as a live in-person event to Altoona’s Bavarian Aid Society on Saturday, November 19! We’ll find out about this year’s “Patched Together” and the service it benefits, the Healing Patch – plus we’ll hear music from some of the performers at this year’s event! We’ll also debut some new songs, dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and step “Across State Lines” to hear a number from an out-of-state band or artist! Hear the “Homegrown Rocker” this Sunday night (November 13) on Q94 Classic Rock – 94.3 FM and online at www.q94classicrock.com!

In Local Music News…

Altoona-based 1990s rock group Sunday Girl has changed their name to The Zuds. The Zuds just performed last night (November 5) at McGarvey’s in Altoona, opening for The Jaded Lips.

Guitarist Dave Serene has parted ways with Indiana County-based classic rock and pop band Somebody To Love. Bill Menk has joined the group to play keyboards and sax. Bill’s first show with the group took place last night (November 5) at Indiana’s Ramada Inn.

The video has been released for the novelty song issued earlier this year by the songwriting pair of Bill Dann and Denny Pompa. Released by Bill and Denny under the alias Hal Apeno & the Ghost Peppers, the song, “Wings of Fire,” tips the hat to those brave souls whose passion is enjoying extremely hot chicken wings. The video, released on YouTube, features Denny and Ken Pompa on guitars, also Bill Anderson on trumpets, and Ed Kuhstos as the nuclear wing-consuming daredevil. The video was filmed at the Bull Pen Restaurant and Sports Bar in Tyrone. (The video and song are the current “Local Song of the Week” on Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com, click on “The Professor’s Classroom.”)
