
State police out of Somerset County report that an 88 year old man was telephoned at his home in mid December and was told that his son was involved in a traffic accident and had been arrested. The scammer pretended to be an attorney from reading, claiming that a cash payment would get his son released from jail and back home. The scammer told the victim to pay $18,000, but the victim said he couldn’t pay that much. So he was instructed to pay $10,000, which he did. Troopers say they are investigating.
