The Altoona Mirror reports city firefighters wee called out to the blaze at 3rd street and 5th avenue yesterday morning. Firefighters said that there were 12 people inside the structure and all were led to safety. Firefighters had to use a ladder to rescue one tenant who was on the 3rd floor looking out of a window. The owner of the building said that the structure has been in his family since the 1940’s and housed the old Italian Market Basket business until 1995. That part of the building was a real estate business most recently. No cause of the blaze was determined, and the investigation will continue.
