Backyard Beats Listing 4/14/23: (hed)PE Returns, ArtsAltoona Spring Market and More!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, April 14 through Thursday, April 20.

The return of a national recording group and a spring arts market are among the many live music events on the schedule for this warm spring weekend and upcoming week.

California rap-punk rockers (hed)PE bring their explosive brand of music back to the stage of McGarvey’s in Altoona on Monday night. Surfacing from Huntingdon Beach, California in 1994, (hed)PE (referred to at various times as (hed) Planet Earth and (hed) Planetary Evolution) signed with Jive Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1997. The group’s first single, “Bartender,” achieved widespread modern rock radio airplay and charted well on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock charts. The group later became part of the 2001 Ozzfest tour. They recently issued their 13th studio album, called “70s Hits from the Pit.” Opening Monday’s show will be New York City’s Rebelmatic, plus local hard-hitters Hate Grenade and Abstentious. The music begins at 7 p.m.

And the ArtsAltoona Center hosts its Spring Art Market event on Saturday kicking off at noon. A number of area and regional arts and crafts vendors will display and sell their creations, and five area acoustic performers will take the stage through the course of the event. The lineup includes Little Jimmy Melon Baller, Dave Moses, Pat Anderson, Bill Wandersee and James Grove. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.

These are just two of many live music events taking place around the area during the next seven days. Browse the listing below to find out who is playing where, and – as always – SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!
