Former Congressman Bud Shuster Dies – He was 91

Elmer Greinert “Bud” Shuster died Wednesday afternoon at age 91.  A cause of death was not released.  Bud Shuster served in Congress from 1973 to 2001, representing the 9th District of Pennsylvania. He was born 1932 in the Pittsburgh area community of Glassport, PA.  He was an advocate for Interstate 99 as well as many other central Pennsylvania projects.  He was followed in office by his son, Bill Shuster. In  statement, their successor, Congressman John Joyce wrote, ” For nearly three decades, Bud Shuster was a tireless champion for Central Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives. ‘Mr. Chairman lead the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee into the 21st Century and spearheaded infrastructure projects that have stood the test of time, not just across Pennsylvania, but across the United States.” A portion of I-99 is named  for Shuster, and part of Route 30 is known as the Bud Shuster Byway.
