According to a report byWTAJ, nurse Dina Norris has filed a complaint against UPMC Altoona for what she calls retaliation for her speaking out about critical nursing shortages. Norris says that her contract was terminated last July because she issued a complaint through the national labor relations board about an allegded 5-1 patient to nurse ratio. That issue escalated when nurses were allegedly told they would have to care for more patients, something they told management was not safe. After Norris talked about the issue to a television station, she was fired and was put on a do not rehire list, according to the report. A hearing on the complaint is scheduled for July10 in Pittsburgh.
