The Altoona Mirror reports that the board presented the spending plan, with a bottom line of more than $126 million. The reason given for the proposed tax increase, is to support the cost of numerous new positions the board wants to create. Those positions include elementary security greeters, autistic support, speech therapist, grant writer, 4 new licensed practical nurses and another school psychologist. These new positions will cost just under $1.4 million according to the proposal. The tax hike, if approved, will cost the Altoona homeowner another $40 per year. Board members asy that they are preparing for the end of Covid 19 money next year. The tax increase is not official, and won’t become so until the final budget is adopted next month.
