In a report over the weekend, the house passed the bill that would raise the fee for the 911 surcharge from $1.65/month to $1.97/month to your existing cellphone charges, and would raise the the fee for the 988 suicide prevention hotline another 6 cents. In another part of the bill, the house voted to eliminate the sales and gross receipts taxes on your cellphone service. Any future increase in these fees will be tied to the rate of inflation. The bill now goes to the republican controlled senate for its consideration.
