Authorities report that 39 year old Florentina Mayko pleaded guilty last Wednesday in federal court to charges of health care fraud that netted her millions of dollars between 2017-19. Mayko and others were charged with sending fraudulent urine tests paid for by Medicare that were unnecessary. Mayko authorized the test because she was the CEO of several medical clinics, in specific, Pain Medicine of York reportedly billed Medicare some $10 million in that 2 year period, where a large share of the money went directly to pain medicine of York. Mayko has agreed to pay back $1.4 million to the Dept of Health and Human Services in restitution, and will forfeit properties she owns in both Myrtle Beach and Ocean City. Mayko now faces up to 10 years behind bars.
