Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 6/25/23

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 25 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

We welcomed band guests on this week’s program, as Altoona rock and soul power trio The Jaded Lips (www.thejadedlips.com) visited the studio! Mike, Hunter and David enlightened us on the group’s story, music and live show, and we played tunes off the group’s just-released debut album, Lip Service! We also debuted the first single from Altoona’s Sweet Desire, updated “Local Music News” and dug a 1981 number by Pittsburgh’s The Silencers from the archive for our “Local Music Flashback!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 062523.)

An annual benefit concert event returns next month with a new name. Formerly known as “Day Of Rock,” the “We Care Music Fest” will take place on Saturday, July 8, at Shawnee Park in Roaring Spring, with proceeds benefiting the We Care Foundation of Central PA. The event starts at 11 a.m., and will feature performances from Velveeta, Felix & the Hurricanes, Sweet Desire, Jud Bussard, The Pines, Zac Grace, Avenue Of Kings and Xorillion. Donation at the gate the day of the event will be $20 per person, with children under 12 admitted free when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Stacy & the Rejects has announced their new rhythm section. Bassist Tom Yannitelli and drummer Daniel Rummell replace Josh Yahner and Mike Davis, who left the group to concentrate on their original music endeavors and their Alice In Chains tribute project, Deny Your Maker. The new-look Stacy & the Rejects performed this past Thursday night outside of the Sons of the American Legion post in Ebensburg during the annual Wheels & Wings event.

And the State College-based funk, soul and blues band Miss Melanie, which was formed three years after the dissolution of Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats, announced recently that they have parted ways.

That’s a look at “Local Music News.” Bands and artists with news items to report on the program may email their information to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
