According to a report from WTAJ, state rep. Democrat Amanda Cappelletti has proposed legislation that would stop the banning of books in libraries across the state. Cappelletti says that this practice goes against the first amendment. The reports stated that most books that are banned were written about the LGBTQ community, indigenous people or people of color. Some of the books currently on the banned list contain graphic sexual content. Along with using profanity and talking about drug use. If passed, the law would prohibit libraries from banning books, and would be subject to losing state funding if they do not comply.
