The Altoona Mirror reports that current superintendent Mark Loucks will be away from his post for an undetermined amount of time. So the board has appointed Brian Helsel as temporary superintendent until Loucks’ return. Helsel is currently the director of special education of the district and also serves as the schools athletic director. Helsel told the mirror he is not sure if he will continue in his other two jobs while he is acting super. The board also hired a local law firm to join a class action lawsuit against Meta Platforms for allegedly causing mental health problems for students. Claysburg joins Spring Cove and Williamsburg as part of the plantiff’s lawsuit.
