D.A. Pete Weeks announced yesterday his office will seek the death penalty against 51 year old Raymond Oechsle for the murder of Christopher Helsel back in April. Oechsle is charged with killing Helsel inside their apartment building along 8th avenue, then continued to live in his apartment for 3 days after the killing, with Helsel’s body still inside. Weeks said that due to the violent nature of the homicide, he feels the death penalty is warranted in this case. Weeks said that this decision is for the protection of the community.
