A report by WTAJ states that the state Attorney General’s office has been conducting an investigation into McAbee’s Subs in Altoona for some time, and concluded that the owner had not paid any sales taxes since 2019. Melinda Robenolt is accused of withholding more than $69,000 in taxes owed to the state. Robenolt is charged with putting the sales and use tax money into a general fund to use for both personal and store business. Robenolt is reported to have told investigators she withheld the money because the store was doing poorly and needed it to survive during the pandemic. She is facing some 19 felony charges in this case.
